Resume builder guide — go from blank page to ATS-ready in 15 minutes
A step-by-step walkthrough of RozGar24's free resume builder. Every field, every toggle, every shortcut — including the ATS score optimisation.
Step 1 — open the builder from your dashboard. Choose 'Create from scratch' if this is your first resume, or 'Import existing PDF' if you're rewriting. The PDF importer uses OCR to extract your experience, education, and skills — verify the auto-fill before saving, OCR is good but not perfect.
Step 2 — fill in your contact + summary. Use your real phone number (employers call between 10am–6pm), a professional email (not coolguy99@…), and a 3-line summary that includes your target role, years of experience, and top 3 skills. Example: 'BCom graduate with 1 year of Tally + GST internship experience targeting accountant roles in Surat.'
Step 3 — add your experience. For each role, list the company, job title, dates (use ISO format YYYY-MM), and 3–5 bullet achievements. Start every bullet with a verb: 'Managed', 'Built', 'Increased', 'Reduced'. Quantify everything — 'increased sales by 18%' beats 'responsible for sales' every time.
Step 4 — education. List your highest degree first. Include the college name, year of graduation, and CGPA if it's above 7.5. Below 7.5, leave CGPA off — recruiters only look at high GPAs.
Step 5 — skills + certifications. Add the skills that match your target role, and link to your RozGar24 skill test badges. Verified badges carry 5x the weight of self-reported skills in ATS scoring.
Step 6 — projects + portfolio (optional but recommended). Link your GitHub, Behance, or personal website. Add 2–3 projects with one-line descriptions and tech stacks. Recruiters scan this section for 15 seconds — make every word count.
Step 7 — review your ATS score. RozGar24 gives every resume a 0–100 ATS score based on keyword match, formatting, and length. Aim for 80+. If you're below 80, the builder highlights which sections to fix.
Step 8 — download + apply. Export as PDF (preserves formatting across all ATS systems). Use the same PDF for every application — RozGar24 tracks which version of your resume converts best, so you can iterate over time.
Common mistakes: (1) using a table layout (ATS can't read it), (2) including a photo (Google's ATS penalises this outside India; in India it's fine but not required), (3) listing every job you've ever had (recruiters want your last 2–3 relevant roles), (4) writing a 3-page resume for 1 year of experience (keep it to 1 page).
Done in 15 minutes. ATS score 85+. Apply to your first 5 jobs today — the hardest part is starting.
